72 hours for wedding: St. Petersburg to open wedding tours
June 8, 2011 15:12

Government of northern capital of Russia offers to permit conclusions of marriages between the foreign citizens on the territory of Russia. This can draw more tourists to St. Petersburg. Wedding during 72 visa-free hours, sightseeing in St. Petersburg and in its splendid suburbs with parks and royal residences, and then sailing to other countries and cities. All this looks like a good idea, but it will take time while alterations in legal system will happen. Anyway, St. Petersburg has all required to become one more European romantic city, at least in summer.

The Russian legislation in this area is not so comfortable even for the Russians. Registering of marriage in the neighboring region for the Russians can be more difficult even than to organize a wedding abroad, as many Russians already do. They go to EU, especially to Italy, France, Czech Republic and Greece, or to exotic countries, mainly to islands. What about foreigners, they are allowed to marry Russian citizens of the territory of Russian Federation. This is rudiment of Soviet times, when the soviet citizens first weren't allowed to merry foreigners and then were permitted to do this. Marriages of foreign citizens weren't registered at all. Now Civil Registry Offices of the region are ready to take up documents and register marriages operatively, within 72 hours the EU citizens having come by cruise liners can stay in Russia without visa.

Idea of wedding in St. Petersburg looks very good, but such kind of trips is possible in the summer time only, because of famous nasty St. Petersburg weather in winter and autumn. It is not associated with love and romantic at all in this period instead of Cuba or Cyprus.

If you want to spend a honey moon in Russia, having had a wedding at home, here are plenty of romantic tours, from Golden Ring to exotic ones. There are even tours with ethnographicents: you'll be acquainted with Old Russian marriage traditions and ceremonies (More about Russian wedding traditions....). It is also possible to organize your wedding feast like contemporary Russians do: with a wedding outing. In most cities, especially in Golden Ring ones, the weddings include trips around the city and sightseeing. In Moscow the just-married usually do to the Red square and to Vorobyovy Gory, take photos, drink shampagne, release white pigeons and create traffic jams because many people still think that renting a long limousine for a wedding outing is a good idea. Usually, married couples from Moscow make a small Golden Ring trip, visiting cities which are situated not far from Moscow, like Vladimir, Suzdal and Rostov Veliky. Such tours are widespread and it is possible to find an optimal price-quality relationship. True Moscow snobs go to St. Petersburg.

All in all, tour operators dealing with weddings exist in Russia, and it really can be amusing and even cognitive. If St. Petersburg initiative meets support in the government, Russia will be glad to offer its guests such things as wedding in St. Petersburg suburbs among parks, palaces and fountains, weddings in White Nights period, weddings with elements of ethnography, e.g. in Novgorod, which is situated not far from St. Petersburg.
