Rescuers from Ministry of Emergency Situations call to observe the rules of conduct in the hiking tours to ensure the safety. The hiking tour needs to be projected as to avoid problems that may eventually cause injury or damage to hikers.
The General Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the Republic of Adygea reminds:
• Make sure you take a map with you, a compass, communication means (mobile or cellular phone and charged spare batteries for them).
• Tell your relatives and friends about the route. If possible, register in the local search and rescue team. Identify the key return date. Agree on the periodicity of communication sessions.
• Each group member must have matches in a waterproof package, a lighter, knife and minimum food ration.
• When advancing on the ground, mark on the map all visible landmarks that can help you find the way back.
• If you got lost and you have no map, no compass, try to climb up on the highest tree possible and observe the surroundings. Then move down to the highway, railway, river or power lines: they will show you the way to the settlement.
• If possible, contact rescuers through "112". When waiting for rescuers move to an open land area (a field, river bank, etc.). Lay bright objects over the ground and hang them on the trees. This will help the rescuers if the search will be carried out from the air.

Also, before you go hiking, make sure you studied the routes well and are familiar with the path that the route will lay across. Check out the terrain and the weather forecast. Be sure to bring a proven tourist maps. To obtain reliable information contact your local authorities. Make sure your equipment meets the requirements of your hike. Bring sufficient food and beverage supplies; necessary clothing, in particular, the thermal socks.
Avoid hiking alone. A hiking group should consist of at least three people. If someone gets hurt, one of the hikers will remains with the injured and the other one will go for help. Be sure to inform your family and friends about your route and expected time of return from the hike.
During the hike try to keep the trails and do not go off it. Doing so you will never get lost.
Before you stop for the rest, familiarize yourself with the local rules of making open fire. In many places making open fire is prohibited. Try not to disturb the environment with loud shouts and music. Always take care of the environment. Try not to harm the flora and fauna.
Be sure to take away all your waste. In case if you find someone else's waste then take it with you. Organic materials, even easily decomposed, should be disposed or taken with you. It is not wanted that the animals consume these wastes.
If you use detergents, try to do this procedure no less than a hundred meters away from the water source. If you took your dog to hike do not forget to find out the local rules of the animal keeping. Always try to keep it on a leash. Local regulations sometimes require this. Check local fishing and hunting laws. In most cases, these activities require a permit from the local authorities. If you discovered damaged indication signs along the route, be sure to write down their exact location and notify the appropriate authorities. The absence of such signs may create difficulties for other hiker groups.
