Traditionally the best time to visit Gatchina is from late spring to early autumn.

Events & Festivals

Third Saturday of September is a City Day: "Glorify, Gatchina". The tradition of the festival has existed since 1989.
End of February - beginning of March is a period for Russian film festival "Literature and Cinema". It has taken place since 1995. The program of the festival is made by movies-film adaptation or pictures created on the grounds of literary works. Grand Prix for the best film is called "Garnet Bracelet".

Famous people of Gatchina

The famous residents of Gatchina are a prominent physician in infectious Sergey Botkin, artist Fyodor Vasilyev, composers Mily Balakirev, Alexander Glazunov and Michael Ippolitov-Ivanov, writer Alexander Kuprin, a poet and translator Mikhail Lozinsky, chess player Mikhail Chigorin. Suburbs of Gatchina are associated with Alexander Pushkin, his family and literary characters. Thais and Suyda belonged to the great-grandfather of the poet, Hannibal and  Arina Radionovna lived in Kobrino. The Museum of one of the "Tales of Belkin" - "House of station master" is in Vyra.
