Things to Know before Travelling to Kamchatka
August 28, 2018 17:01

(Source: http://yogatour.info/interesno/9184-kamchatka-tur.html)

A trip to Kamchatka is really unique due to the geographic isolation of the peninsula, the scarcity of the population and the fact that it has been recently withdrawn from the status of a closed territory. Check our tips to make your trip safe and enjoyable.

Choose the right clothes
A jacket and a hat (waterproof) together with  gloves, a warm fleece jacket and a sweater will be your best friends. When hiking in remote areas, be ready to cross many rivers.

Attention!  Wild animals
Animals are interesting  for observation until you disturb them, so be quite and careful.

Drink water safely
Kamchatka is one of the places on the planet with the purest water. You can safely drink water from streams and rivers.

Traveling in the wild
If you are traveling on foot in a natural park, register your route with the Directorate of Natural Parks of Kamchatka, a tourist company or in the hotel where you stay, and do not forget to report when you come back. Going to the volcanoes, do not forget to grab a couple of sticks – they  will help to maintain balance when  climbing on slippery slopes or crossing snowfields.

Geographic maps
In book and souvenir shops you can buy a map of the Kamchatka Peninsula, scale 1: 500000 m.

Boat trips along the bay

Going for a walk along the Avacha Bay, dress warmer, even on a sunny day. Grab the hat, gloves and, if possible, rubber boots. Wear warm underwear (long-sleeved sweatshirt, pants), and a warm sweater. If the weather is warm, the sweater can be removed, and if it's cold, you will be glad that you have additional protection from the cold.

Money
• Most shops and even hotels do not accept payment by credit cards
• At present, ATMs are located in different places in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in Sberbank, at the airport and in banks of Elizov.
• There are currency exchange points in many banks, large shops and shopping centers in Petropavlovsk and Elizovo. To exchange money you need to show your passport.
• Some ticket agencies accept credit cards.

Public transport
Buses run from 7.00 to 21.00, and private minibuses operate after 21.00.

Security questions
Kamchatka and Petropavlovsk are among the safest places in Russia. Nevertheless, beware of pocket thieves in buses. Close the bags and keep them in front of you, not behind your back or on your shoulder. Keep pockets of outer clothing closed. Do not leave valuables in the car, even if it is closed.
