Valley Of Geysers: No Virtual Tours In Winter
November 23, 2013 23:16

The broadcast of the scenery of the mountain gorge of the Geyzernaya River will be terminated for the winter period.

The webcam in the Valley of Geysers was turned off until spring. Now the cordon in the Valley of Geysers in the Kronotskiy Reserve is being prepared for preservation. The broadcast of the scenery of the mountain gorge of the Geyzernaya River will be terminated for the whole winter period.

The web camera mounted on the side of the gorge of the Geyzernaya River in 2008 opened the possibility of a virtual visit to the unique nature object. Depending on the position of the camera the visitors of the Kronotsky Reserve can see the ensemble Vitrazh or the turquoise lake Geyzernoe. At certain moments one can watch the eruptions of the biggest geysers – Bol`shoy and Velikan.

The experts of the Kronotsky Reserve replaced the technically outdated web camera for a more modern one with improved image quality in the summer of 2013. The new camera captures images in HD. Its 360 degrees rotation in the horizontal plane and shooting with a 20- fold zoom allows to see the scenery of the Valley of Geysers in more detail.

"The modern equipment will be removed from the territory of the reserve for the entire winter so that the virtual visitors of the reserve could get a high-quality image in the future. Now our experts remove all the equipment that provides webcam operation and live video broadcast of scenery from the Kronotsky Reserve to the Internet", - Yuri Grishin, the IT Specialist of the Kronotsky Reserve said.

The measures taken will help to avoid the negative impact of  the sub-zero temperatures on the expensive equipment. Winters in the mountain Uzon-Geyzernyi District of the Reserve are quite severe. The snow depth amounts to 5 meters, and the temperature falls to -30 ° C. The webcams will start to operate again in the spring of 2014 after the depreservation of the cordon. The archive of photos and videos taken by the webcam in the Valley of Geysers are available at the web-site of the Kronotsky Reserve all year round, as the web-site of the reserve reports.
