There is one of the most extraordinary parks in the capital in the eastern uptown of Moscow, near the Shchelkovo highway. This is a former experimental nursery garden of lilac. The public urban garden was created in 1973 on the basis of it. The nearest Boulevard is also called by Lilac name, and it oddly enough, is better known than the truly unique. Moreove the Lilac Garden is recently renovated and landscaped.
Lilac is basic for the garden. Here are may be not all of its kinds, but all colors of it - from pure white to dark purple. The old varieties are of particular value. In the updated park they want to recreate the lost collection of the outstanding plant breeder Leonid Kolesnikov, who once created the lilac nursery garden.
Kolesnikov was a truly great self-taught gardener who created many varieties of lilacs on the basis of old kinds, which were under threat of destruction. For many years he did this on the enthusiasm, while his work had been completely fully recognized by the horticulturist in the country and abroad. In particular, the kind of 1947 "The Beauty of Moscow" was officially titled as the most beautiful lilac in the world. It is polypetalous, white and pink and very fragrant. Besides the lilac there are flower beds, chestnuts and poplars in the garden.
There is a fountain, lots of benches, neatly paved paths and bird feeders, but there are no amusement and usual park fun except the garden’s symbol in the form of a huge five-petal lilac flower. This is a great advantage of the park, that is perfect for relaxation and contemplation of the beauty.
