Hygiene Museum In St. Petersburg
May 13, 2016 11:15

Hygiene Museum exhibits demonstrate a variety of manifestations of the human body: from the fetal stages of development in the womb up to diseased organs preserved in alcohol.

Smoking doll shows the devastating effect of nicotine. The model of "glass man" allows visitors to see what is happening inside men’s body. Here one can see a collection of old medical instruments, an ancient dental chair and pedal dentist’s drill. Soviet visual propaganda for a healthy lifestyle and compliance with hygiene standards in the form of scenes with kids is presented in the museum.

The model of Pavlov’s experiment shows a pretty grim impression: stuffed dog tied to a special frame with a bell. The museum is housed in an old mansion of Count Shuvalov, built in Baroque style under the design of architect S. Chevakinsky.
