Seven events involving characters of national fairy tales and legends at once will be held in Russia this year in order to promote domestic event tourism.
The characters of Russian fairy tales and legends from various regions of Russia arrived in Kostroma on April 5, on the Snow Maiden’s birthday celebrated annually in this city which is considered the birthplace of the granddaughter of Father Frost. Kostroma met: Russian Father Frost, Pakkaine - Karelian merchant, Yamal Iri - Yamal Father Frost, Tsar Berendey, Alyosha Popovich, Kysh Babai - Tatar Father Frost and Shurale, Tol Babai - Udmurt Father Frost and many others. Within the frame of fairy-tale festivities an unusual race in kokoshniks was held, the winner of this race received a tablet computer from the hands of the granddaughter of Father Frost.
In early summer, on June 7 one will be able to meet the characters of fairy tales from all regions of Russia in Pereslavl-Zalessky of Yaroslavl oblast. As a part of celebration of the traditional meeting of summer and the fairy-tale festival “Visiting Berendey” “fairy-tale quests” will be held in the city; moreover an updated “Fairy-tale Map of Russia” with new characters and adjoined Crimea peninsula will be presented.
The birthday of Baba Yaga will be celebrated on June 28, in the same Yaroslavl oblast, in the village Kukoboy, as a part of the holiday “Kukoboyskaya Fairy-tale”. The specialists in the field of the territories promotion will discuss the successful experience in the development and promotion of fairy-tale characters: Father Frost from Great Ustyug and Father Frost of the Bialowieza Forest (Belarus), Snow Maiden from Kostroma, Tsar Berendey from Pereslavl-Zalessky; the discussion will take place during the holiday at the fairy-tale “seventh milestone”, near the hut of Baba Yaga, a fairy-tale local brand. In July Kirov region will host a fairy-tale festival “Glinyshek’s Amusements” in honor of the Vyatka fairy-tale character, a boy of clay, “Glinyshek”. The fans of fairy-tales will enjoy a fairy-tale all around, unusual sweepstakes and contests, pottery workshops and a procession of fairy-tale characters.
A tourism holiday “Visiting Ryaba-the-Hen (Motley Pullet)” will be held in the village of Yermakovo of Yaroslavl oblast on August 11. It is the capital of the chicken kingdom; and the Museum of Ryaba-the-Hen with more than 2,000 exhibits is located here. The busybody landlady will treat guests with tea and cakes, entertain them with games and competitions in the chicken yard, where the exhibition of chicken of all breeds and colors will take place.
The fairy-tale year will be finished by the already traditional holidays - Happy birthday of Father Frost in Veliky Ustyug (November 18) and “Olonets Games of Fathers Frost” in Karelia (December 1-3).
