The Perm Krai hosted the first All-Russian Congress for the Development of Tourism Industry in the Regions. It was organized by the newly established Perm RTU department supported by the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Perm Krai.

The event brought together government representatives, businessmen, NGO members and investors to discuss the current issues of the tourism sector. As the vice-president of RTU Yuri Barzykin noted, there are no unpromising regions in Russia in terms of tourism, but there is a lack of mechanisms for its development. For regions, in his opinion, it is necessary to take advantage of the current trend of growing interest in domestic tourism and to pay more attention to the creation of local tourism products.

The Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Perm Krai Pavel Lyakh told about the program for turning the region into a major tourist cluster. The program was developed by the office in conjunction with the Perm University and divides the whole region into 7 tourist and recreational areas: Srednekamye, Urals, Northern Urals, Solikamye, Mining and Work Urals, Nizhnekamye and Parma. Each of it has own development profile, whereby the territories will be able to complement each other. As RATA news report, the international expert Bernd Klaube called the lack of proper airport and railway station the weakest point of the region's tourist infrastructure.

However, according to him, in the Perm Krai there are many interesting things that could provide real tourist inflow: the city of Perm, which concentrates the historical and cultural attractions; Hohlovka; "Perm-36" Museum, as well as unique opportunities for active tourism, hunting and fishing in the most beautiful places of the Urals.

Among the urgent issues of tourism development in the Perm Krai is guide accreditation. The problem is that in Russia there is no federal law regulating the excursion activities and many regions advanced in terms of tourism, such as St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Kaluga and others issue accreditations at the local legislative level.

Congress participants agreed on the necessity to develop regional legal acts, introducing mandatory guide accreditations. Perhaps, the Perm Krai will follow the example of other regions. At the meeting the prospects for the development of agro-tourism were also discussed. According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Perm Krai Ivan Ogorodov, the agency is ready to support rural tourism in the ongoing programs on providing subsidies.

Entrepreneurs from the Spanish region of Cantabria shared their experiences with Perm colleagues. According to them, staying in the countryside, in a village or at ranch is now very popular among the tourists from the large European cities. In this respect, the Perm Krai definitely has the prospects.
