The authorities of Vologda Oblast jointly with the Russian Ministry of Culture have decided to launch a tourism project “Silver Necklace of Russia” in the region.
”This is a unique project implemented by the government of Vologda Oblast together with the Ministry of Culture. Our main task is to determine the number of objects to be included into the “Silver Necklace”, that is, the presentation objects that will be shown on all information portals and tourist maps not only in Russia, but also around the world” – the Governor of the region Oleg Kuvshinnikov said.
He recalled that the idea of creation of the large-scale project “Silver Necklace of Russia” based on the experience of the “Golden Ring of Russia” was expressed at the meeting of the State Council for Culture and Arts held in late 2014. “The total number of objects will be published by March-April 2015. We will create a route map that will help tourists from around the country find their way and visit the “gems” not only of Vologda Oblast, but of the entire Northwest.
Perhaps, the “Silver Necklace” will include such cities of the region as Vologda, Belozersk, Tot'ma, Veliky Ustyug, Kirillov and Vytegra” – Kuvshinnikov reported. The Head of the region is sure that the demand for the project is currently growing. “A very good situation is being created now, when the tourist flow is reoriented from external destinations to domestic tourism. There are many tourists who would want to visit Vologda Oblast, and we must give them such an opportunity” - he stressed. One of the main problems to be solved for the successful development of new tourism project, according to Kuvshinnikov, is the development of a modern transport infrastructure.
“Several years ago we had only one working airport in Cherepovets. Nowadays airport complexes are operating in Vologda, Veliky Ustyug. Thus, the development moves on. Huge resources are invested in the repair of roads. Four and a half billion roubles from the road fund of Vologda Oblast are allocated for roadway replacement each year. In addition, service facilities, roadside filling stations, hotels are built” - he explained. Today the route through the Vologda region includes five historical and cultural sites: Spaso-Prilutskii Monastery, Museum of Lace, Open-air Museum “Semenkovo”, the Estate of Bryanchaninovs and Vologda Museum-reserve.
