January 29, 2018 14:41

The Visimsky Biosphere Reserve in Sverdlovsk Oblast will open an ecological trail for tourists on the territory of its protective zone for the first time by the end of January 2018.

“An ecological trail about two kilometers long was equipped in the protective zone of the reserve in 2017. This trail contains information signs, besides, an entrance group is equipped. However, the trail is not being used at the moment. We are planning to open it before the end of the current month, but everything depends on the weather” – the Temporary Acting Director of the Reserve Mikhail Fedorov told, without specifying the amount of funds spent on the construction.

According to him, the trail passes from the foot of the mountain through the deciduous and coniferous forests to the top of the mountain, where it is planned to open an observation platform in the future. Houses for tourists will be built in the reserve. These will accommodate up to 20 people at a time.

The Visimsky Reserve was founded in 1946. In 2001 the reserve was granted the status of a biosphere reserve by the decision of UNESCO. The present area of the reserve makes up 33.5 thousand hectares, the area of the protective zone being 46.1 thousand hectares.
