The Holy Protection Convent in Suzdal with its ancient tomb of famous monks has become a popular tourist and pilgrimage site of the ancient town.

During the New Year’s holidays the tourists and pilgrims were attracted by the opportunity to descend to the lower church and visit the necropolis with the graves of Ivan the Terrible’s wife, Tsarina Anna Vasilchikova, the daughter-in-law of Ivan the Terrible, Evdokiya Saburova, Vasily Shuisky’s daughter Princess Anastasia, the Princesses of Shemyatichevs, Belskys, Kislys, Nogtevs. The last Russian Tsarina, Evdokia Lopukhins, the wife of Peter the Great, took the monastic vows at the Holy Protection Convent and lived there for 20 years.

Some fragments of epigraphic monuments have preserved: white stone tombstones of the 16th -17th centuries. The most revered relics of the monastery are the holy relics of the wife of Vasily III, the Great Moscow Princess Solomoniya Saburova who was named Sophia in her monastic life and spent 17 years at the monastery. In XVII century she was canonized. The lower church of the main cathedral was consecrated in her honor in 2015.
