July 12, 2010 17:33

Vnukovo International airport (IATA code VKO) is the oldest one in Moscow. It is situated 28 km westwards from the centre of Moscow, so it is the nearest one to the city, moreover, it it very easy to get. Three highways, Aeroexpress high-speed train, buses and shuttles are at your service. Vnukovo is ACI (Airports council international) Europe member and it is inclined to become a leading Moscow's hub and transit centre between Europe and Asia. Among Vnukovo's advantages are geographic location: it lies on a highland, and that is offers an advantage under low weather conditions, especially fogs. Vnukovo's geographic location gives an advantage for air carriers making flights from the west and south.

Structure
Aerodrome complex of Vnukovo handles flights of Vnukovo-1 passenger complex including Terminals D and B, Vnukovo-2 government-owned terminal and Vnukovo-3 terminal for business aviation. The passenger terminal of VKO consists of Terminal D for international flights and B for domestic ones.

Terminal B includes three levels. On the Level 1 are situated: Check-in desks, airport customs room and baggage dispensing.

The Terminal is equipped with elevators, travellator and escalators and ramps for disabled people as well.

Getting around

Transfer

You can book a transfer from Vnukovo airport in advance, the driver will meet you and take you to your destination, with no troubles.

If you get to the airport by car by yourself, you can take Kievskoye, Borovskoye or Minskoye highway. I would recommend Kiewskoye, it has been recently reconstructed and has very high traffic capacity. The airport is situated in 11 km from Moscow Ring Road.

Aeroexpress high-speed train is a good choice if you set off from the city centre. You go to the Kievsky Railway Terminal (any metro station called Kievskaya) and buy a ticket. You also can check-in for a flight also there. Aeroexpress trip Kievsky Railway Terminal – Vnukovo takes 35 minutes. Aeroexpress ticket costs 300 rubles for adults, 100 rubles for children 5 – 7 years old and free for the children younger than 5 years old.

This service functions from 6. 00 to 0.00.

Metro and bus
You can get to VKO taking bus or shuttle from the metro stations of Oktyabrskaya and Yugo – Zapandaya.
You get off from Oktyabrskaya station of the belt line of Moscow underground and take a shuttle 705M. The trip will take 30 – 40 minutes. This shuttle runs from 7.00 till 23.00. It costs 100 rubles. There are no more municipal buses from Oktyabrskaya. Take into account, that Leninsky Avenue is rich in traffic jams in the peak hours. One half of your trip will be along this street.

Yugo – Zapandaya metro station
You can get municipal buses 611 and 611c. Airport is ther terminal point. The ticket costs 25 rubles if you buy them in ticket window and 28 if you buy it from a driver. The trip takes 25 – 30 minutes. The shuttle N45 costs 100 rubles and runs 15 – 20 minutes.
In the shuttles, you pay 10 rubles for each extra place in the shuttle occupied by your baggage.
