New Aquabuses in St. Petersburg
April 29, 2013 23:57

The upcoming navigation will be the first for four new vessels with a capacity of 36 people each, and the whole fleet of Petersburg aquabuses will make up 18 vessels of different sizes. The experiment of the development of intra-river connections was very catching for guests of St. Petersburg. According to estimates of the Owners of Passenger Vessels Association, about 65% of customers of aquabuses are tourists.

In 2013 season the navigation for aquabuses will begin late May and will last at least until the middle of September. And the movement of each vessel can be tracked in real-time mode by public transport portal of St. Petersburg. Passengers of aquabuses have no risk to be trapped in traffic jams (a trip on the longest route takes less than 45 minutes). Many of the vessel stops are situated close to the subway stations. And the route of the Central line, for example, passes the Summer Garden, Peter and Paul Fortress, the Winter Palace, the famous St. Petersburg bridges and wharfs.

Last season aquabuses transported about 450 thousand people. The cost of the ticket was only 100 RUB, and that’s why there were a lot of people willing to look at Petersburg from the water. This year, the ticket price has not been determined yet, because the funding allocation from the authorities was shortened by half (to 60 million RUB). It is possible that the price will grow up to 200 RUB. Instead of four operating lines in 2012, three are likely to remain. Central and Nevskaya lines will be combined. Moreover, Prigorodnaya (suburban) line could be changed by a new one, which will take place from Arsenalnaya wharf across the sea passenger port Morskoi Fasad (Marine Façade) and passenger ship terminal of St.Petersburg to the Lomonosov and Kronstadt. This year it is planned to increase the number of passengers of the  aquabuses to 600 thousand people.
