The highest duration of 10-point traffic jams ever was recorded in Moscow on Thursday, December 25. For the first time the maximum load on the roads persisted for more than seven hours in a row.
This was reported by the PR-manager of “Yandex” Elina Stravinskaya on her Facebook account. The traffic jams were caused by a heavy snowfall. Because of the cyclone that approached to the capital region from the northwest almost a fifth of the monthly norm of precipitation fell in Moscow - 11 millimeters, December’s mean precipitation being 56 mm.
In connection with the snowfall 21 flights were delayed in the Moscow airports “Vnukovo”, “Sheremetyevo” and “Domodedovo”, according to TASS referring to the official representative of the Emergency Situations Ministry Aleksandr Drobyshevsky. The passengers were warned about flights delays, now the airlines deal with the issues of food and accommodation.
As the Emergency Ministry added, railway transport is operating normally, there’s no delay of passenger and freight trains. According to Drobyshevsky, more than 11 thousand units of special equipment are now clearing snow off the roads in Moscow and the Central Federal District. He added that more than 200 response teams were sent to especially loaded sections, including 60 of them to federal roads. 50 mobile units of heating and nutrition are equipped on the roads where traffic jams may occur.
