Krasnoyarsk is located on the bank of Yenisei, 3955 km to the east of Moscow. Climate is sharply continental. The average temperature is -17 in January and +18 in July. Precipitation level is 460 mm a year. It is a large transport knot of the Eastern Siberia at the crossing of Yenisei by the Trans-Siberian railroad and the highway Moscow - Vladivostok. It has the area of 354 sq km and the population of 1003 thousand people (as of June 1, 2012). Krasnoyarsk is surrounded with mountains and hills covered with taiga and pine forests. The southeastern part of Krasnoyarsk adjoins the Stolby nature reserve with rocks of fanciful shape. The modern city consists of 2 parts: the left-bank part located on high terraces of Yenisei and limited with steep hills from the north and the west and flat right-bank. Both parts of the city are connected with a bridge (1956-61) over 2 km long.

Train
Several eastbound and westbound trains stop here daily and Krasnoyarsk is one of the routes of the Tran-Siberian, Trans-Mongolian, and Trans-Manchurian trains. Three times a week runs the ‘Yenisey’ train to/from Moscow (Kazan Station) taking 64 hours. There are also 6 trains a day to/from Irkutsk (19hours) and 2 trains to Vladivostok. There are trains on alternate days along the Baikal-Amur Mainline to Severodvinsk, the other to Tynda and Neryungri.
Bus
The intercity bus service has regular buses to Abakan (twice daily, 9 hours), Shushenskoe (once daily, 10 hours), Sayanogorsk (once daily, 10 daily), and Yeniseysk (seven times daily, 7 hours).
Boat
Long-distance passenger boats ply the Yenisey River in summer from Krasnoyarsk to places as far as Vorontsovo, more than 2000km away, which opens on to the Arctic Kara Sea. There are special voyages to Dudinka (Taymyr Peninsula, 4 days and nearly 6 days coming back, against the current, twice weekly). Stops on the service to Dudinka include Yeniseysk (18 hours), Bakhta (44 hours) and Igarka (79 hours).
If you want to explore the Taymyr Peninsula and its unique nature reserves, you’d better take an expedition to the North Pole or northern territories of the Taymyr Peninsula, including a helicopter flight, or a several-day ski tour.
Boat
In summer, passenger boats travel from Krasnoyarsk all the way down the Yenisey to Igarka, Dudinka and Vorontsovo.
Air
There are flights from Krasnoyarsk to Igarka, Dudinka and Norilsk. There are also flights between Norilsk and Moscow.
Train
The world's northernmost railway runs between Dudinka and Norilsk (4 hours).
