How to Get to Irkutsk Airport

With the cultural heritage of its aristocratic exiles, the Asian influence of nearby Mongolia and China and the easy accessibility of the Lake Baikal, Irkutsk is one of the most appealing cities in Russia. Certainly, the biggest attraction in Irkutsk is Lake Baikal, which is near enough for a day trip. The lake is world famous for its pure cold waters, unique flora and fauna and unforgettable views of the biggest water body in the continent. There are also nature reserves around the lake, which total more than a million hectares. In 1996, UNESCO declared the lake and its surrounding basin to be a National World Heritage Site.

How To Get There And Away 
 
Air
 
There are two or three flights a day to Moscow (6 hours) and three a week to St. Petersburg (6,5 hours). Siberian connections include daily flights to Novosibirsk (2,5 hours), six flights a week to Bratsk (1 hour) and five to Khabarovsk and Krasnoyarsk. There are also flights to Petropavlovsk –Kamchatsky, Magadan and Yakutsk. International connections include weekly flights to/from Niigata in Japan and Shenyang in Korea.
 
Train

Irkutsk is 88 hours from Moscow by the daily express train A good choice is Baikal Express, which departs from Moscow’s Yaroslavl Station every other day.
