Many countries of the world participate in the anti-tobacco program and impose a ban on smoking in public places. Since June 2013, Russia has adopted a similar law. If before that time many smoking rooms operated in Russian airports, now they are closed, and the violation of the rules may cause a fairly solid fine of 2000 rubles. Of course, many passengers travelling by air try to find out the rules and arrangement of smoking areas in airports. Here you will find an answer on smoking in Pulkovo.

Pulkovo International Airport is the base for the airline "Russia" and takes the fourth place in the country by the number of air transportation. Until 2013, the smoking room in Pulkovo was located inside the terminal building according to sanitary requirements. But after the introduction of the resolution, this zone was liquidated.

To date, special areas are equipped near the main building of the Pulkovo airport,  where it is allowed to smoke. They have urns, canopies, as well as special signs indicating to smoking  zones.

In the rest of the terminal, smoking is strictly prohibited, and a modern smoke trap system is installed, which reacts instantly. The security service strictly monitors the implementation of these rules, regulating where it is allowed to smoke in Pulkovo.

What about smoking rules in the airports of other countries?

Despite the fact that the place for smoking in the Pulkovo Airport is not equipped with comfort and located outside the terminal, other countries are not ambiguous about smoking in the airports:
  • Belarus adopted an anti-tobacco law in 2002, but the airport retained the so-called smoking rooms;
  • In Ukraine, the ban came to effect in 2012, but special smoking rooms exist there;
  • Using tobacco products in prohibited places on the territory of the UAE may lead to imprisonment and a fine of up to 180 thousand euros. Smoking is only allowed in a smoking room in the terminal building;
  • Istanbul Airport   has a cozy terrace on the third floor of the terminal, where guests can relax and enjoy a cigarette. People are not allowed to smoke anywhere else. For violation of this requirement, there is a large fine;
  • The airports of Paris and Bangkok are also equipped with special  cozy rooms for smokers;
  • At the airports of Heathrow, Cancun, Berlin   and Croatia, same as in Russia  comfortable smoking rooms do not exist.
