Where is it allowed to smoke in Sheremetyevo airport?

Restrictions on smoking in public places pleased nonsmokers, but greatly complicated the lives of smokers, many of who need a cigarette every couple of hours, and even more often. Smoking rooms were removed in Sheremetyevo - one of the 20 largest airports in Europe.

In fact, it is needed to know for sure whether it is possible to smoke in the terminal building, and if not, then where to smoke in Sheremetyevo area. Some people tried smoking in toilets. However, such actions entailed not only inconvenience for non-smokers, but also large fines, so the management of the airport found a way out.

After the law protecting the health of citizens from the negative effects of tobacco smoke and the consequences associated with the use of cigarettes came into force, Sheremetyevo  banned  smoking in all areas of the building. Before that, there used to be comfortable rooms with high-tech equipment, powerful extracts and air fresheners, the materials used were only incombustible and not highly flammable in order to avoid the possibility of accidental ignition. The furnishings of the smoking rooms corresponded to the level of service. In each room there were comfortable chairs, TVs, ashtrays were installed in the tables, and there were several devices for charging mobile phones. Smoke and smell, unpleasant for non-smoking travelers, did not go beyond the smoking zones.

Situation to date

There are specially equipped areas for smoking outside the building of the airport; the administration of Sheremetyevo Airport was forced to close the last smoking rooms of the terminals in 2016, since fines in large amounts had to be paid regularly and often. Of course, this did not solve this problem. Now the management is constantly facing a large number of complaints about the fumes in toilets.

The Director-General believes that airports should definitely have special places for smoking, and it is understandable. Currently, only a couple of places for semi-legal smoking are available, but they are extremely inconvenient for both smokers and other passengers.

The first option is outside the building, as prescribed by law, at a distance of about 15 meters from the exit. There are large urns in the zones, and along the road there are several indicators. However, the smoke from such zones still spreads far enough.

The second option, which is sometimes allowed to use for passengers is the space between the landing of the gangway and the hatch leading to the aircraft.
