Smoking in Vnukovo Airport

The law banning smoking in public places, adopted by the deputies of the State Duma in June 2013,  put many airport passengers in a difficult situation. Operating rooms for smoking in all Russian terminals were closed, so the smoking category of citizens should always check smoking rules before going to airports. In this article you will find where it is allowed to smoke in the Vnukovo airport.

The decision entered into force in the summer of 2013, it prohibits smoking in all public places like:
  • public services;
  • all kinds of educational institutions;
  • hospitals, medical institutions;
  • stadiums, beaches, playgrounds, hotels;

  • railway stations, airports.
Also, a ban on advertising tobacco products in all media and advertising campaigns was introduced.

Vnukovo International airport (IATA code VKO) is the oldest one in Moscow. It is situated 28 km westwards from the centre of Moscow, so it is the nearest one to the city, moreover, it it very easy to get. Three highways, Aeroexpress high-speed train, buses and shuttles are at your service. 
 
Until 2010, the place for smoking at the Vnukovo airport was in  two rooms inside the terminal building.
 
Near the gates ¹24 and 31 the administration made 2 smoking rooms equipped according to all requirements of sanitary norms with modern ventilation. Later similar zones were placed throughout the terminal. But due to the entry into force of the anti-tobacco law, these premises were closed.

Now smoking is allowed  at a distance of not less than 15 meters from the building   of the airport. Throughout the terminal there are signs indicating  the location of smoking zones, as well as  forbidding the use of tobacco products in unauthorized places.

To date, the administration is in favor of returning smoking rooms to the airport.
 
According to the director, the law does not currently work as expected, but only leads to constant conflicts between passengers. Smokers complain about the lack of organized space on the territory and often violate the prohibitions inside toilet rooms and other spaces.
