The first in Russia suburban steam train is running on Saturdays on the route Bologoye - Ostashkov - Bologoye.
The retro train runs along the historical conservation area of the Oktyabrskaya Railway, which was created in December 2013 on the Bologoye - Velikiye Luki section with the adjacent Soblago - Torzhok branch. At present, these sections have no equal in Russia in terms of historical preservation and integrity of architectural structures and railway infrastructure facilities. There are about 200 objects there, taken under state protection as objects of cultural heritage. At some stations, whole architectural ensembles have been preserved in their original form.
At the Kuzhenkino station, a museum with a unique complex of buildings from the beginning of the 20th century was opened. It includes a station building, a water tower, a kerosene cellar, a demonstration switch, and a hydrocolumn for refueling a steam locomotive. A free tour around the museum complex "Old Kuzhenkino Station" is provided during a half-hour stop of a suburban steam train for refueling with water (when moving towards Ostashkov).
The steam composition includes:
interregional passenger coaches painted in historic green with 20th century interiors;
a team of friendly guides wearing the historical form of that era, who will be happy to take a joint photo with you;
hot tea, snacks and souvenirs;
a 30-minute stop at a real open-air museum;
good mood, a lot of impressions and beautiful photos!
The locomotive departs from Bologoye every Saturday at 9:25 am and arrives in Ostashkov at 13:07 pm. The return departure is at 15:07, return to Bologoye at 18:21.
