Legends of the Sea Eye Lake

Emerald-green water of the lake and its unusual depth caused many legends associated with its origin. They say, Sea Eye appeared between the hills as a result of downwrapping and took a wedding procession to its depths.

The reason for it was the fact that the bride and groom were the closest relatives - brother and sister, and despite the ban on marriage, they got married. Angry gods tore the earth apart directly in the way of the wedding procession, so the couple and all guests died. Now, as the locals assure, you can often hear quiet melodies of wedding songs and ringing bells sounding above the water surface at night.

A more realistic version says that the modern lake is a part of a large ancient sea. They say that long ago the peasants from neighboring villages found the remains of an ancient sea ship here. This version is supported by the fact that the water at the bottom of the lake is salty.

Another reason for emergence of various legends is presented by underwater caves situated at the bottom of the lake. They are little studied for the time being, and the brave who came down so deep assure that the water at the bottom is completely opaque – it is not penetrated even by a flashlight beam. Therefore, it is scary to dive into a cave farther than 1.5 meters deep. Local school children tell a horror story that a girl drowns in the lake every 18 years. Unfortunately, the sad events actually happened.
