Pavlovsky Posad near Moscow is known far beyond its borders thanks largely to famous Pavlovsky Posad kerchiefs and shawls. The district authorities decided not to focus only on the well-known brand and showed to journalists and travel agencies representatives some things in the city and its surroundings that may also be interesting for tourists.
The participants of the first introductory tour, which took place in July, visited the museum and exhibition complex “Princely Court” in the village of Bolshie Dvory. The complex is not yet working in full force, but it is ready to receive guests. Bolshie Dvory was chosen by chance. In XIII century, the Great Prince of Moscow Daniil Aleksandrovich - the youngest son of Aleksandr Nevsky - stopped to rest and hunt at the courtyard situated halfway between Vladimir and Moscow. The local population was meant to provide everyday life and needs of the prince and his troop, that was why commercial and craft shops were located here.
According to the authors of the “Princely Court” complex, its territory will soon host workshops, where everyone will be able to master the ancient crafts like weaving on sticks. One of the museum rooms of the complex is devoted to Vokhonskoe battle in the War of 1812. Vokhonskaya Land being the edge of Bogorodsky county at that time turned out to be the extreme eastern point of enemy’s entry into the country.
Since 2002 the reconstruction of the battle held near the village traditionally attracts thousands of history fans. The main hall of the exhibition is devoted to the history of Pavlovsky Posad flax factory. Since 1868 a small silk-weaving factory has turned into a solid industrial association, which today is one of the leading manufacturers of fire-fighting equipment. The territory of the enterprise hosts only the departments where fire hoses are woven and elements for fire trucks are manufactured, but also a livestock farm which is a place of interest for children.
“The first step towards the development of tourism in the area has already been made” - the Deputy Chief of the Administration Gleb Lopatin claims. “Our plans include the arrangement of historical and ethnographic museum complex in the open air similar to the museum “Skansen” in Sweden, the creation of a tourist information centre.” According to Mr. Lopatin, Pavlovsky Posad does not claim for the fame of Sergiyev Posad, although the potential of this small town shows otherwise. Let us take, for example, the Pokrovsko-Vasilevskiy Male Monastery founded in 1885, which is one of the main historical attractions. The cathedral of the monastery was once built on the burial site of the monk Vasily Gryaznov, now venerated in the face of Saint Vasily Pavloposadsky - the patron of all entrepreneurs in Russia.
The two museums in the city are obligatory for visiting: Pavlovsky Posad History and Art Museum and The Museum of the History of Russian Kerchiefs and Shawls. The Memorial Museum of Vyacheslav Tikhonov - the actor born in Pavlovsk in 1928 – will soon join them. According to forecasts of the officials, the question of inheritance and transfer the house to state will be solved in this year. “It is planned to build a cafe next to the museum and to decorate it in the style of “Seventeen Moments of Spring” movie” - the representative of the Office for Culture, Sports and Youth of the District Nikolai Krasnov said during the press conference. “We have already contacted the studios that are willing to cooperate with us.” It is expected that the project implementation will take about two years. So far, however, one of the main problems of Pavlovsky Posad region is the lack of potential tourists’ awareness of its opportunities.
