Kamenny Bay On the Teletskoye Lake
November 2, 2015 10:49

Kamenny Bay is a stone basin bordered by forests. It is always very quiet and beautiful here - the place is perfect for picnics and relaxation far away from civilization.

The origin of the Kamenny Bay has remained a mystery until present day. Some argue that it was formed by a meteorite fall; others say that a landslide is to blame.

By the way, the edges of some stones in the bay look like melted, which confirms the theory of a meteorite. Whatever it was, the age of the bay is only a few centuries, which is not a long term for such formations.

The residents of the Altai call the Teletskoye Lake “Altyn-Kol”, which means “Golden Lake”. In addition, it is called “Small Baikal” – this name was given to it 400 years ago by the first Russian explorers in honor of one of the tribes of the Altai - Teleuts or Teleses who lived on the shores of the lake.

It is best to come here in late spring or summer. The average temperature at the Teletskoye Lake amounts to -9,2 ° C in January and + 15 ° C in July. The weather can change dramatically during the day. People come here for picnics or with tents. The bay is shallow, so on hot days you can swim, but the water in the Teletskoye Lake is cold enough.

The Teletskoye Lake and its many tributaries, more than 80 of them, are a paradise for fishermen.

River perch, pike, burbot, taimen, whitefish and Teletsk grayling live in the lake, these species of fish are the main goal of the fishermen. People usually bring stones from the Kamenny Bay as souvenirs. Currant (black and red), gooseberry, raspberry, wild onions and rhubarb grow along the shores of the lake. You can buy smoked, dried, raw fish in Iogach.
