This exceptionally cosy and soulful Moscow country manor of red bricks often gets "in a film frame" as a model of residence of noble families.
Today Marfino on the banks of the Ucha river hospitably opens its doors to all travelers. Six centuries ago the owner of the local hunting lands with the adjacent manor was the teacher of Peter I, the Prince Boris Golitsyn, in whose memory a graceful Church of Nativity in the spirit of Golitsyn baroque was left for the descendants. It is surrounded by a beautiful French park with a mirror-like surface of pond, where today you can walk on a boat and explore the church and manor house "from the water."
The boyar’s Son brought to the hammer the property for the debts of his father. Then Marfino came to the Field Marshal Saltykov who turned it into a sample of Catherine's epoch. The Saltykov’s heritage perfectly preserved to nowadays: the former kennel, horse stable, a music pavilion, picturesque gazebo and a rotunda with a statue of Apollo, ornamental bridge and four artificial islands on the pond - Island of Love, Meeting, Expectation and Separation.
You can visit the small Church of St. Peter and Paul that is richly decorated with white-stone decor. The next owner of the manor was the Count Orlov, whose daughter rebuilt the manor house, turning it into the fairy-tale palace, which grandstands on the shore of the Marfino pond today. There was a time when the music and sounds of dance was heard in 24 rooms of this exceptional house.
