The rails are covered with withered grass, abandoned buildings, pipes, dogs barking to a casual traveler in their own language. But here serious scholars could walk, clutching folders from the top-secret calculations, or happy workers could walk with astronomical salaries - and the city itself would be a major center of power engineering of the Urals.
Instead this, Agidel became a city of expectation. In 1980 construction of Bashkir nuclear power plant and Agidel city began on the banks of the White River. Then the power went to the unprecedented step - first they made "social" part: build a house for future station staff, school and kindergarten. For NPP they dug a pit - and then…other times came. In the early 1990s, ecological companies protested against the construction of the station.
In Ufa a chain of protesters lined up over ten kilometers. The main argument against the construction of the station was a bad choice of location: at the break of the earth crust. The administration tried a variety of options. Agidel received a status of a special economic zone, an industrial park was opened - the station housing is leased by production workers for 10 years. This term is not accidental, the citizens of Agidel hope that after 2025 the existing implementation plan of NPP will be revised and the construction of the station will restart. It is also planned to develop a river port. However, despite all the measures, here is the largest unemployment rate and the lowest salary in Bashkiria.
As for some positive points - Agidel stands at the confluence of the White River and the Kama River. Here is excellent fishing on the banks of the White River. Carp in the catch is not a rarity.
