Kasli is the capital of the Urals iron casting. The works of the Kasli Foundry include figurines, decorative dishes, decorative lattice that received prestigious awards at international exhibitions in Paris, Copenhagen, Vienna, Stockholm and Milan.
The residents of Russia who are unfamiliar with the casting art of Kasli masters, probably know the most widely distributed mass product of the plant: the first manual grinder in Soviet Russia was produced here - from 200 000 to 1 200 000 pieces per year. However, meat grinders production was terminated in 1990.
Naturally, the main must-visit attraction of the city is the Museum of Casting Art. It is the only museum of this kind in Russia. It presents the works of several generations of Kasli masters: the samples of Russian and foreign sculpture, cast iron furniture, household items, miniatures. The exposition consists of one hundred and fifty Kasli casting patterns, and the museum funds contain more than ten thousand items.
The local cemetery is also interesting: it is a kind of an open-air museum (even excursions are conducted here), as far as many fences and gravestones are the same Kasli casting art. There is an attraction of another kind to the East of Kasli - the East-Ural State (Radiation) Reserve, a monument to the accident at the “Mayak” chemical plant that left a radioactive trail in the Urals - from Kyshtym to Kamyshlov. No visitors, of course, are allowed to enter the reserve; those who try to circumvent the cordons (there are such people) are caught and fined.
