Greater Sochi is a truly gigantic metropolitan area stretching to 105 km along the sea. Mountains are coming close to the coast which does not let it grow wider, only longer.

This beautiful metropolitan area is called “polycentric” and “invisible”: it consists of many settlements and areas, known under their own names, but all of them belong to the administrative entity of Sochi. This “invisibility” causes problems for visitors of the area: it is not easy to guess that Adler is also a part of Sochi, besides, this is not an isolated locality, but the entire area including the Krasnaya Polyana village.

At the same time, Krasnaya Polyana itself has nothing to do with Sochi and is generally regarded as a separate resort entity. The M-27 Highway connects all coastal districts of Sochi, from Lazarevsky to Adlersky.

There are four of them in Greater Sochi: Lazarevsky, Tsentralny, Khostinsky and Adlersky. “Sochi itself” is actually Tsentralny District, the smallest in terms of its area, but the most densely populated. It is worth to tell a separate tale of the districts and settlements constituting Greater Sochi. They are different in atmosphere and in the specialization of spa services, prices and prospects.

The districts and settlements of Greater Sochi:

Tsentralny (Central). The historical part of Greater Sochi, former Fort of Aleksandria. It includes the districts of Bolnichny Gorodok (Hospital Town), Verkhknyaya Mamaika, Vishnevaya, Gagarina, Donskaya, Zavokzalny, Zarechny, Mamaika, New Sochi, Pasechnaya, Truda, Tsentralny. Tsentarlny district hosts the most part of the iconic Sochi: The Winter Theatre, Seaport, Railway Station, Art Museum, “Riviera” Park and the “Bocharov Ruchei” residence in New Sochi, Sochi Arboretum, as well as the famous Soviet-era hotels “Zhemchuzhina” and “Svetlana” located a little to the south, on Vereshchaginskaya side (this district is better known as Svetlana) in Khostinsky district of Sochi.

Khostinsky. The centre of the district is Khosta. The most prestigious part of the city is the one that is adjacent to Tsentralny district. Khostinsky District is a famous spa resort, and beach holidays here are less popular than health resorts. The Matsesta waters and silt mud still attract people who need their curative properties. The composition of Khostinsky district includes the following micro-districts: Svetlana (Vereshchaginskaya side), Bytkha, Zvezdochka, Matsesta, Khosta, Kudepsta, Maly Akhun, as well as the rural districts of Baranovsky and Razdosky.
 

Lazarevsky. The centre of the district is Lazarevskoe. Lazarevsky district is the most remote from the airport and the centre of Sochi. By local standards, it is considered to be the least convenient because of transport problems. But the sea here is the cleanest. Beach settlements (micro-districts) included in Lazarevsky district are as follows: Ashe, Vishnevka, Vardane, Glubokaya Shchel, Golovinka, Golubaya Dacha, Dagomys, Lazarevskoe Selo, Loo , Luchezarny, Magri, Makopse, Kalinovka, Mukhortova Polyana, Nizhnyaya Beranda, Nizhnyaya Khobza, Soloniki, Tikhonovka, Uchdere, Chemitokvadzhe, Shaumyanovka, Yakornaya Shchel.

Adlersky. The centre is Adler. Adlersky district is composed of the following micro-districts: Adler, Blinovo, Golubye Dali, Kurortny Gorodok (Resort Town), Nizhneimeretinskaya Bay, Cheremushki, as well as Krasnaya Polyana village district (Krasnaya Polyana), the rural districts of Nizhneshilovsky, Kudepstinsky and Moldovsky. The territory of Adlersky district hosts the buildings that were built in both clusters of the Olympics-2014 - mountain cluster (Krasnaya Polyana) and coastal cluster (Olympic Park in Imeretinskaya Valley).
