Many legends are associated with the patriarch oak located on the eastern outskirts of Dubovka, on the bank of the Volgograd water reservoir. This oak is 400-450 years old.

They say that Stenka Razin with his comrades liked to have rest in its shadow. Local landowners liked to play cards under this tree and, sometimes, lost entire fortunes. According to a Tibetan monk who once came here, the oak has a positive energy. They say that if you make a wish and touch the oak, it will come true.

There is a legend about the founder of the Holy Ascension Women’s Monastery – the archpriest Ioann Pokrovsky. The monastery under construction experienced a lack of drinking water, they had to go far to obtain it. Once the father Ioann knelt and, lifting up his hands to the sky, prayed tearfully for a long time. And then he rose up and hung in the air. The old man woke up from the scream of someone passing by and told the eyewitness to mark this location. A well was dug there soon, its water turned out to be tasty and curative. There is a bus stop in Dubovka widely known as “Tyeshchina” (Mother-in-Law’s). Truckers often stop to have rest there. Many of them told that they had seen a naked ghost of the boy called Semyon walking nearby. The teenager complains to them about the cold and says that he is from the Crimea, his stepmother drove him away from home. He traveled for a long time, got to the Volga River, and one night he was eaten by wolves in the forest. And because during the time of his life Semyon was disobedient and stole things, the higher powers sentenced him to 100 years of scaring people. They say that the boy will rest in peace pretty soon.
