Aprelevka: History
July 6, 2017 17:29

The town of Aprelevka is situated 25 km away from Moscow on the Desna River.

You can get there by car through Kievskoe highway, by train in the direction Moscow — Kaluga (from the Kievsky railway station). The town grew out of the railway station built in 1899 year next to the eponymous estate where the writer N.N. Zlatovratsky lived. At the beginning of the 20th century a factory of phonograph records “Metropol-record” was opened there, during Soviet times it was renamed as “Aprelevka Factory of Phonograph Records “In the Memory of the Year 1905”. This is the main attraction of the town.

However, the plant has not been operating since the early 1990s, when the demand for phonograph records sharply fell. Now the premises of the former factory host the plants producing socks and vermicelli.

The Museum of the Aprelevka Factory of Phonograph Records is open for tourists, it exhibits phonograph records (including rare ones, of the early 20th century), as well as gramophones and other interesting devices. This is an immersion in the musical history of Russia and the USSR. The Museum was founded and is maintained solely on the money of enthusiasts.
