Lake Khanka
October 23, 2017 15:05

The largest lake of the Far East is located right on the border with China, in the center of the Khankan lowland. China owns about a third of the lake - this is the wider northern part of the pear-shaped reservoir.

Two dozen rivers flow into Hanka, and only one spring flows from the lake - Sungacha in the north-west, then flowing into Ussuri. The state border is along the Sungachi.

A small pond of Malaya Khanka is separated from Lake Khanka on the Chinese territory. The name of the lake, most likely, comes from the Chinese "hanhai" - hollow. Low coasts are mostly bogged. Their outlines, water level and lake area vary depending on the amount of precipitation and winds. On average, the water surface covers from four to five thousand square meters. On the western shore of the lake there are hills and rocks. The eastern coast is low. The lands around the Khanka are used as farmlands - pastures, rice and watermelon fields. This activity leads to an even more turbidity of the water, as drains from the fields escape into the lake, and worsen the ecology. The lake needs protection, and five separate sections of its coast already have a conservation status. They form an international biosphere reserve that works conscience with the Chinese reserve Sinkai-Hu.
