Location: Bystrinsky Natural Park is located in the center of the Kamchatka peninsula. The lands of the protected area cover the valley of the Bystraya River, which divides the Sredin and Kozyrevsky ranges. There are two settlements in the park - Esso and Anagvay.

What to see:   the Bystrinsky Natural Park is included in the Kamchatka Volcanoes World Heritage site. There are such animals as  brown bear, mountain sheep, wild reindeer, foxes, wolves, wolverines and other species here. In the Bystrinsky Park, the Evenks live and are economically active. The cultural and ethnographic complex "Menedek" was created in the park specially  for tourists, after visiting which they can learn about the Evenk rituals, their national songs and games.

Moreover, for already 25 years a Kamchatka sled dog race “Beringia” takes place in the park. Its route is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest route, which makes 1980 km.

Tourist Routes

There are many paths in the park, they have been used for centuries by local reindeer breeders and hunters.   Some of the most turbulent and beautiful rivers of Kamchatka flow through the park, and such rivers as Bystraya in Esso are favorite rivers of rafters, because they prefer rough flows. In Esso, there are several tour companies that organize one-day or three-day rafting along this river. Another way to get acquainted with the park is to ride horses, with overnight stays. In Esso such trips are organized by tour operators.

Pedestrian routes is an excellent opportunity to see an area of coniferous forests in Bystrinsky park. In the territory of this park there are several hunting lodges, they can be used by agreement with the authorities of the park.  Various information about tourist routes and other services are available in the visitor-center of the park. In the summer of 2007, volunteers and park workers equipped an ecological path called "Getting to know the forest" organized at the expense of the grant they received from the Commonwealth Fund.

Every year a children's ecological camp is organized on the cordon of the park, which is called "Green Rangers", where Kamchatka children study the ecology of Kamchatka, and also go hiking. Annually in the last days of February - beginning of March the Reindeer herder's Day is held, in 1-2 weeks "Beringia" begins - it is a race with dog sleds from Esso to Ossor. The longest race "Beringia" was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. The opening of the race is a beautiful ceremony.

Near the village of Anavgai is the ethnographic Evenk settlement "Manedek", its visitors can see the traditional and cultural life of the Evenks. In this ethno-cultural center there is an opportunity to buy original souvenirs, which are made by hand, and during tea-drinking with traditional treats hear a story about the culture of reindeer herders, fishermen and hunters.

The administration of the Bystrinsky Park organizes assistance to those who wish to get into the area: meet incoming tourist groups, give transport for a trip to Esso, organize tours on all-terrain vehicles-bigfootah as well as snowmobiles, certified guides accompany tour groups along the routes.

Volunteer programs:
the Natural Park annually invites volunteers to work during three summer months in the Bystrinsky cluster and the Ketachan Cordon. This is a very advantageous offer, as the organizers pay for air tickets from the mainland to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and a transfer to the Esso village. Moreover, the park pays  volunteers RUB 10,000 for pocket expenses.  The volunteers from 18 to 35 years old are recruited. The assistants live on the Cordon, conduct reconnaissance in the park, clean the existing routes, mark them and look for new ones, and also they carry out construction work at various sites in the Natural Park.

How to get there: a regular bus runs daily from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Esso village by the Transkamchatka highway. The bus overcomes the distance of 530 km in 10 hours. The helicopter flight from Elizovo to Esso lasts 2 hours and 20 minutes. The cost for one-hour flight starts from RUB 70,000.
