One of the pearls of the Arkhangelsk Territory is Kenozersky National Park that is located 90 km west of Kargopol.

Useful informatiom: representative office of the park in Kargopol: (81841) 2-71-38. The administrative center of the Kargopol sector of the park: v. Morshchinskaya, (81841) 3-16-75, 3-16-97. The administrative center of the Plesetsk sector of the park: v. Vershinino, (81832) 4-93-48, 4-94-66.

How to get there: by car taking the P1 road to Konevo village, along the rural paths. By train from Vershinino to the Plesetskaya station, then by bus to the village. From Konevo to Vershinino.

The park was created in 1990 on the basis of the Kenozersky and Lekshmozersky nature reserves with the aim of preserving cultural and historical monuments and protecting the unique Northern nature of Russia.

Flora and Fauna

The park area is 1210 square  km. It is home to 263 species of birds, 50 species of mammals, 5 species of amphibians and 4 species of reptiles. There are 2 species of lamprey and 27 species of fish in the reservoirs of the park.

The flora of the park numbers 534 species. Orchids deserve special attention, most of them are included in the Red Book.

Natural monuments

The picturesque lake system is the main attraction of the park. The largest and bizarre in form - Lake Kenozero is surrounded by high hills. The island is decorated with several steep-sloping islands. The shore of the lake is high with sandy beaches. In the past, an important route from Lake Onega to the Northern Dvina ran along the Kenozero and the Kena River, so today there are numerous Neolithic sites, wooden structures and other historical and cultural monuments on the banks of the lake.

Another picturesque lake - Lekshmozero - is located in the southern part of the park. There is a lot of fish in its impressively clear water. And climbing mountain Hizhgora, near Lekshmozero, tourists will admire the surroundings: the forest and lakes.

Tourist routes and tours

There is a large selection of tourist programs for the whole family: summer and winter tours lasting from 4 to 7 days, water-walking routes and ecological paths, summer children's camp, canoeing in the Kenozersky National Park and many other.
