The Republic of Tyva is located in the center of Asia,  the south of Eastern Siberia, the upper reaches of the Yenisei. This is a unique place in its history, nature and culture. Ancient traditions of throat singing are still carefully guarded and protected here, ethnic festivals and carnivals are often held, when local residents demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Most of the tourists are attracted to Tyva by the national park “Ubsunurskaya hollow”, as well as trekking opportunities.

Weather in the Republic of Tyva

Mountains play the role of a wall that isolates from external climatic changes, which determines the climate of Tyva - sharply continental with cold winters and hot, sunny summers. The winter is frosty, windless with little snow. Summer is moderately warm in the mountains and hot in the hollows. The main natural and climatic zones are tundra plateaus with permafrost, taiga massifs connecting with steppe and desert.

The nearest railway station is in Abakan, 400 km from the city of Kyzyl. So you can get to the republic either by bus or by plane. Flights Krasnoyarsk - Kyzyl - Krasnoyarsk are operated by Pilatus aircraft daily, except Sundays. Novosibirsk - Kyzyl - Novosibirsk flights are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but only during the summer season. Helicopter transfers to hard-to-reach places are common, but their cost is quite high.

The total length of roads is more than 5 thousand km, the main of which is the federal road M-54 “Yenisei” Krasnoyarsk - Abakan - Kyzyl. From the capital of the republic there are regular bus services to Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Irkutsk.

The motor ship “Zarya-267” of the  “Tuva Shipping Company” runs along the river Big Yenisei (Biy-Khem) on the route Kyzyl - Sevi - Systyg-Khem - Yrban - Ii - Toora-Khem from the end of April and until the river is covered with ice.

Sights of the Republic of Tyva

The Republic of Tyva has a huge tourist potential, combining a unique variety of natural and climatic conditions with picturesque landscapes, richness of fauna and flora, preserved national traditions, and unique historical monuments.

In a relatively small area you can see all the natural varities of the Earth, with the exception of savannas and tropical rain forests.

There are 15 state natural reserves, 15 nature monuments and two reserves. One of them is the state natural biosphere reserve "Ubsunurskaya hollow", included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The geographical position of Tuva at the junction between the East Siberian taiga and Central Asian semi-desert landscapes predetermined the richness of its flora and fauna. Hunting grounds occupy more than 60% of the territory. Sable, Sayan squirrel, lynx, wolverine, ermine, bear, wolf, maral, mountain goat, musk deer are hunted here.

Undoubtedly, Tuva attracts both by  its rich historical and cultural heritage and by the preserved ethnic culture: the traditional dwelling of Tuvinian nomads (yurt), national cuisine, folk crafts, national arts (throat singing), national sports (Horse races), a unique combination of the traditions of shamanism and Buddhism, the life of Russian Old Believers, Ubsu-Nursky Biosphere Reserve, the oldest Scythian barrow Arzhaan, Por-Bazhyn ancient Uygur fortress on Lake Tere-Khol, one of the largest temple complexes - Ustuu-Khuree,  Camel Rocks, the road of Genghis Khan, the National Museum of Local Lore of the Republic of Tyva and many more.

Tuva is the birthplace of Arzhaans, healing springs. The largest of them are the hot springs of Ush-Beldir (Northern Arzhaan) and Tarys (South Arzhaan) in the mountains of eastern Tuva on the ridge of Akademik Obruchev with a water temperature of +52 ... + 85 ° Ñ.

A significant part of salt water lakes are used for therapeutic purposes: Dus-Khol, Cheder, Bai-Khol. Mineral springs, lakes of Tuva have unique properties and are located in special climatic conditions, in picturesque places of Tuva.

Lake Chagytai is the deepest and largest freshwater lake in the Tuva Basin. It attracts primarily fishermen, as it is rich in fish. They come here also for ice fishing.  On the west bank there is a hostel with a boat station and a Russian bath. In addition to tourist camps on the lake there is a summer yurt town.

Lake Tore-Khol is located in the very south of Tuva in the Erzinsky district, on the territory of the Ubsunurskaya hollow biosphere reserve and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The border with Mongolia passes here. The Tere-Khol amazes with the purity and softness of the water, the lake is relatively shallow, with a gentle sandy bottom. On the shore there is a tourist base with 7 guest houses (45 guests), a summer cafe and a cafe of national cuisine, as well as 10 yurts. Here, tourists get acquainted with the customs of nomads, try dishes of national cuisine cooked on a campfire, ride horses.
