Ecotourism in Russia: Darwin Reserve
June 11, 2019 17:50

(Source: https://www.ecmo.ru/data/darvinskiy_zapovednik.jpg)
Darwin Reserve (Vologda region, Russia) is quite small but surprisingly rich in flora and fauna. It is located on the territory of two regions at once - the Vologda and the Yaroslavl.

Local forests are rich in berries and mushrooms, the water area has rare fish species, but the reserve has gained fame among the scientific world thanks to its bird populations. Every self-respecting ornithologist knows that here is the highest density of White-tailed Sea Eagles in the world. The unique "fish eagle" or predatory osprey echoes its popularity.

What to see

The reserve is a closed area, you can only go there with a special permit and a guide. Borok village is the center of the tourist and scientific life of the reserve. Here, in the main manor there is the Museum of Nature, founded in 1965, where you can see 5 dioramas with typical landscapes of the reserve and their inhabitants. Immediately, not far from the museum building, an ecotrail begins, where anyone who is over 14 years old can walk in groups. During the walk, the person accompanying you will show the "comb" of the boar and the bear, the coal pit, the observation platform for the birds and the Gogolyatnik - birdhouses for the gogol-bird.
