History
The Meschyora National Park was created in 1992 in the Vladimir region to preserve the nature of the Meschyorsky lowland. In 2003, the visitor center of the Meschyora park in the city of Gus-Khrustalny was created, where the competitions, excursions, classes, seminars, meetings and quizzes are held. In 2004, there was an opening of the Museum of Nature called “The World of Birds of the National Park “Meschyora” at the village of Urshelsky. The park’s own fire and chemical station appeared in 2012 after the terrible fires of 2010, which destroyed almost 7 thousand hectares of territory. In 2015, the reserve expanded, and the Meschyorsky National Park with an area of 105 thousand hectares was added to it. Now the area of the national park reaches almost 300,000 hectares.
Territory
The number of rivers and lakes in the Meshchyora National Park is empressive: the rivers Oka, Tasa, Bouzha, Karaslitsa, Shurovka, etc.; and lakes: Velikoye, Sokorevo, Valdevo, Shaturskoe, Ivankovskoe, Shagara, Liharevo, Krugloe, Belenkoe and others. The area of only Klepikovskiy lake is about 3.5 thousand hectares.
Archaeological research conducted on the territory showed that there were 20 sites of the bronze, mesolithic, and neolithic periods. 130 monuments of archeology are located on the banks of rivers. Objects of the Neolithic and Early Iron Age were found there, which are now stored in the State Historical Museum.
