The natural ornithological park is located in the Adler district of Sochi, not far from the Olympic Park. Recently, the economic activity of people has reduced the area of the natural habitat of birds, which threatens their existence. The protected natural zone in the Imeretinskaya lowland was created with the aim of preserving unique ecosystems that serve as nesting, stopping and wintering places for many species of birds. Visitors to the park have the opportunity to get acquainted with the representatives of the birds living here, learn more about the flora and fauna of the area.
Park features
Various types of landscape are represented on the territory of the Imeretinskaya lowland - wetlands, lakes with gentle shores and shallow waters, forests in river floodplains, parks with ornamental plants, wastelands with areas covered with grassy vegetation. There is also the only section of Colchis bogs and lowlands that has been preserved in Russia, which previously covered a significant part of the lowland.
The park's specialists are conducting research work on the study of birds living in the territory; birds are caught and ringed. During the work of the park, more than 190 species of birds were seen, and some of them are rare, listed in the Red Books of Russia and the region.
The area of the park is almost 300 hectares, it is divided into 15 clusters, differing in the features of the landscape, the size of the territory and the species of birds that are found here. Of all the zones, only one at number 7 is available for visiting. There are demonstration stands with information about the park, representatives of its fauna and flora. Detailed information about the flora and fauna can be found on the official website of the Sochi Ornithological Park.
Demonstration area
It was decided to make cluster No. 7 a demonstration area for visitors, as well as a venue for environmental and educational events; admission to the territory is free. The natural soil and vegetation on this stretch were not preserved, so it was decided to set up a park here - to plant trees and bushes, lay paths and plant a lawn. It turned out to be a very picturesque place, pleasant for walking, for the convenience of vacationers they put benches. In spring and summer, visitors are delighted with bright flower beds. The park offers beautiful views of the mountains.
It is important to understand that although many species of birds are found here, there are not so many chances for visitors to see them - they are carefully hidden from people. But there are also several representatives available for acquaintance who are used to people and willingly make contact - these are swans and ducks. They spend most of their time on the pond, but they can often be found on land. There are also aviaries with budgies and mandarin ducks, for the latter there is a pond inside.
Events
Employees of the institution are also active in educational activities, telling about the flora and fauna of the territory, environmental problems and the possibilities of their solution. They hold environmental quizzes, promotions, contests, thematic classes and exhibitions.
The institution also makes efforts to popularize birdwatching, which can be not only an exciting hobby that helps to get acquainted with different types of birds, but also the basis for scientific activities. Information from amateur bird watchers can be valuable for the study and conservation of birds.
