Where to Ski in Russia: Murmansk

The ski season in Murmansk begins in the first half of November and can last until summer. The best period for skiing is  the end of winter and the beginning of spring, when the polar night is gone.

Murmansk is the northernmost city in Russia, an ice-free port and a hero city. Recently, travelling to Murmansk and the Murmansk region has become increasingly popular among tourists from Russia and foreign guests. The Murmansk region in winter and summer is completely different. In summer, lovers of off-road expeditions, hikes, fishing and water rafting come here. But we have prepared  this article for those who plan to travel here in winter to enjoy skiing.

In winter, many tourists come to the Murmansk region to do mountain skiing. Most of the ski resorts are located in the Khibiny, but there are full-fledged slides for skiing within the city limits too.

Ski resorts  in the Murmansk region:

Nord Star. The recreation center and the ski complex are located in Murmansk itself, on Icebreaker Passage. Trails up to a kilometer in length are illuminated. The difference in height is 120 meters. There is a cafe, billiard room, and sauna there.

Fires of Murmansk. It is one of the most popular resorts within the city limits. In addition to the ski slopes, there are dedicated slopes for riding  snowmobiles. In total - 6 slopes of varying difficulty with a height difference of up to 200 meters.

South slope. The resort is also located in Murmansk, in the Leninsky district. The length of the slope is 513 meters, the height difference is 112 meters.

Loparstan. This ski resort is located in Monchegorsk. The ski slope is 1200 meters long, the maximum height difference is 245 meters. There are guest houses to stay for a few days.

Big Woodyavr. The resort is located in Kirovsk, on the southern and northern slopes of Aikuayvenchorr Mountain. This is the highest mountain ski resort in the North-West of Russia - the highest point of the slope is at around 850 meters. The total length of the slopes is 25 km. There are green trails for beginners and black trails for pros.

Kukisvumchorr. The ski resort is located in Kirovsk. There are tracks with difficult terrain, the height difference is 520 meters.
