Symbols of Vyatka

The vast majority of the residents of Kirov, as well as the visitors from other regions of Russia, consider Vyatka to be the birthplace of dinosaurs, as the press service of the Government of Kirov Oblast reports, according to the poll “The Symbols of Vyatka”.

According to the poll, the thematic park “Dinosaurs in Vyatka” in Kotelnich, the Kotelnich settlement of Pareiasaurus and Vyatka Paleontological Museum are leaders in three categories – “Tourism Objects”, “Natural Attractions” and “Historical and Cultural Attractions”. Another “fairy-tale” brand of Vyatka drags behind dinosaurs. So, the Kirov “Reserve of Fairy-Tales” took the second place in the category “Tourism Objects” and the festival “Fairy-Tale Games at Vyatka” is only at the 5th  line in the “Newsworthy Events” category.

The first three positions in the “Newsworthy Events” category are taken by the festivals “Shar Goluboy” (“A Blue Shpere”), “Vyatsky Lapot’” (“Vyatka Bast Shoe”) and the Velikoretsky Religious Procession. The category “Folk Crafts” is unconditionally topped by Dymkovo toy. Almost 60% of respondents voted for “Dymka” as a symbol, while, Kukarskoe lace and Vyatka matryoshka together received just over 10% of the votes.

The dispute “Gastronomic Symbols” was won by Vyatska ice cream (27.99%) and Istoben cucumber (24.12%). Vyatka orange saffron received14.68% of the votes, yielding to “Vyatich” beer (20.14%). The list of delicious symbols is closed by Nolinsk gingerbread, Vyatka honey and “Urzhumsky” round loaf of rye. What about the celebrities who lived in Vyatka, the respondents gave the first place to the artist Viktor Vasnetsov.

The second line in the “Famous People” category belongs to the writer Alexander Grin (19.54% of the votes), the third – to the cosmonaut Viktor Savinykh (12.88%), the revolutionary Sergei Kirov is on the fourth line (10.48%). He is followed by marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Konev, the surgeon and founder of thoracic surgery in the USSR Aleksandr Bakulev, the writer Albert Likhanov, the famous Russian neurologist and psychiatrist Vladimir Bekhterev and the artist Arkady Rylov. The poll “The Symbols of Vyatka” was held on the website of the regional government from August 15 and was attended by 2, 432 people, including 2, 326 of residents of the region and 106 visitors of Kirov Oblast.

The press service of the regional government notes that the further work of the Kirov Department of Culture in collaboration with the Centre for Culture and Tourism of Kirov Oblast will be performed taking into account the poll’s results. It is reported by Interfax. “It is planned to develop tourist routes for school students, parents with children, including visits to the most interesting objects and events, according to poll, to prepare photos and text information for the production of information materials about the symbols of Vyatka”- the statement says.
