Experts give advice how to avoid heat illnesses.
Irina Chazova, the Head of Myasnikov Cardiology Research Institute and Fail Ageev, the Administrator of Scientific Dispensary Department recommend drinking 1.5 times more fluids than usually. At the same time they warn that sweetened and carbonated drinks increase dehydration. In addition, this kind of drinks provokes huge energy boost which exposes body to the additional physical stress. Coffee lovers should limit themselves 2 cups a day drinking regular water after each coffee intake. The healthiest drinks are green tea and mineral water containing potassium and magnesium.
Besides that, experts recommend to go on a diet. Limitation of physical stress helps to prevent issues related to cardiovascular system.
First and foremost, physical activity should be reduced: no hard work in the garden, do moderate sports only in the early-morning hours, stay away from broiling sun and stuffy transportation as far as possible.
Air conditioners should be used very carefully during hot weather. First, they have to be cleaned up regularly and have their air filters, which accumulate microbes, also clean. Second, the optimal difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures shouldn’t exceed 10 degrees C.
The symptoms of overheating are the following: mental confusion, weakness, elevating body temperature. When heat stroke occurs the person should lay down with his legs slightly up. His tight clothes should be loosed. A cold compress can be applied to his neck, axillary and inguinal regions. The person can take cooled drinks.
